  1. Way cool!

Posted by Unknown on 29th Sep 2015

Just got this and can't put it down. Love playing my acoustic mandolins but the action and playability is sweet. And that color..., great baby brother to my seafoam tele. Happy with it so far.

  2. Surprising

My lovely wife made me buy this for my birthday.

For an affordable instrument, the quality and finish is outstanding -- feels good, plays good, looks good.

    Two surprising things were:
    a) the weight -- his is a substantive piece. I think the mass contributes to it s impressive sustain,
    b) an acoustic-like mandolin tone when amped clean. I have a four-string mandobird that is cool, but this has a jangly almost acoustic tone.

    Very very pleased.

  3. Sweet, live surf-castin' instrument

Posted by Jeff from Michigan on 29th Sep 2015

I have been playing it everyday since it arrived last week. Bought it primarily because my nephew, Truck Roley plays a black one in Mockingbird Sun.

First of all the Seafoam Green with the classic American Deluxe tele binding is killer! But beyond the drop dead gorgeous good looks, it is rock solid. Mandolin players will be surprised by the weight perhaps, but they will love the neck and the electronics. You will want a beefy mandolin strap.

Intonation and action were excellent out of the box. When it comes to electronics, I've not heard a good mando with onboard pickups. I prefer to mic them live. But the Mandocaster has a wonderful neck pickup that is surprisingly lovely and natural to a mando players ear. The middle position is a pleasant blend of the neck and bridge (my preference) and the bridge pickup cuts through the fog.

When I logged in to purchase, Eastwood gave me a 10% discount which virtually covered the cool gig bag. Pricey shipping from Canada, but it got to me in Michigan in two days. You get a string winder, a couple of picks, a light weight instrument cable with the mandolin and the satisfaction of knowing you are playing one of the coolest instruments for not a lot of money.

  4. Small wonder for southpaw!

It's cute. It's well made. It pretty much plays right out of the box and it's perfect for lefthanded people. Really happy. Now if only I could master the thing I'd be a rock god.

  5. Solid instrument for the $

Posted by Paul on 29th Sep 2015

I bought this after being disappointed with a jazz oriented 5 string e-mando. The Mandocaster has great playability and feel up and down the neck, fast action right out of the box. The PUPs sound good and do have a bit of telecaster sound to them, but that's not why I got this. Been playing this on my own and with a garage band. Adds some nice flavor to rhythm and lead. Still don't have the right amp. for it and have been playing through my Crate acoustic amp mostly.
Don't like: the 3-way switch is poorly placed. It gets in the way of the right hand (strum hand) and it's constantly getting knocked into the lower position. The E string being of smaller gauge and therefore prone to less vibration creates volume issues with the pick ups. Mostly not that impactful when playing loud enough but there is a notable volume drop in the E string compared to the others.

  6. Fun, Comfortable, and Inspiring

Posted by Casey on 27th May 2014

The Eastwood Mandocaster is a great little instrument. Its easy and fun to play (for both long time players and newbies), it sounds great unplugged and plugged in, and you can get a great range of tones from it. It even works well with guitar pedals and amps. This thing easily stands up to any other electric mandolin on the market.

Great price for an exceptional instrument. I recommend this instrument to anyone looking for a way to expand their musical range.
