The Never Ending Pipeline: Part 1
by Mike Robinson
I am often asked where we get our ideas for reissuing guitars and will we ever run out? You would think that running at a pace of 5-10 new models every year, sooner or later the well might dry up. I am here to tell you, not in my lifetime - the pipeline is full and seemingly unending.
So where does the inspiration come from? In the early days, my guitar collecting habits were well documented at www.myrareguitars.com, where I had amassed a collection of a few hundred weird, wacky and obscure guitars. This site continues to grow and is a constant source of ideas for future Eastwood designs.
Over the years as the business grew and the customer based increased, there came a time where more ideas were coming from you, the customer, than were evolving from my personal collection. In fact, over the next 12 months we have committed to 7 new models and have another 5 in the development stage. 10 of these are a result of suggestions from our customers and fans.
Yes, many of these customer suggestions and ideas we cannot consider due to trademark and patent reasons. Others get sidelined due to cost prohibitive tooling issues (plastics, custom metal parts, etc). But every suggestion is considered and answered.
This month we are reorganizing the Eastwood Website. The main reason was to “mobilize” it for modern computers and handheld devices. In the process of doing so, we are also splitting the Eastwood and Airline brands for the first time. This helps simplify the site and the shopping experience. If future years this format will also allow us to expand our other models/brands such as Wandre, Valco, Supro and others.
So keep those suggestions coming! Also, watch for my next BLOG – The Never Ending Pipeline: Part 2 - where I will delve further into what it takes to make it into the Eastwood reissue pipeline.
