  1. Full of character, fun to play the EEB-1

Posted by Kit Johnson on 28th Sep 2015

This is my fourth Eastwood instrument and like the others the EEB-1 arrived in tune and ready to play. I liked it with the round wounds it came with but I was looking for the character of the Rick Danko sound and found that a set of Chrome flat wounds gave me that in spades. I know Danko had a P-bass pickup on his but this EW pickup has a great character of its own. I find that, with the Chromes at least, where you play with your right hand has an even more profound effect than usual. The low notes are clear and well-defined and the neck feels great. It took me a couple of missed notes at the bottom of the neck to get used to the fact that the neck feels longer than a Fender because the body is smaller so your strap attaches further away from the end of the neck but there's no problem getting used to that.
And did I mention how cool it looks???
Anyhow, like my other Eastwood instruments I am very pleased with the quality of workmanship and design. Well done Eastwood!!!

  2. SAUCY!

I play this great bass .... in a Salsa outfit, of course, commemorating its heritage! I bought it sight unseen direct and was in fact surprised by every aspect of it: build quality, finish, flexibility, character - great value for the money. The neck has a wonderful vintage feel and is highly comfortable to play - the way the instrument is balanced is also spot on. The sound is very smooth and full-bodied, and surprisingly variable given that there's just one pickup - but they got the voicing of the tone control just right, like on a good P-Bass.

As an added bonus, I get a quite of compliments for the looks of the bass and the special through-f-hole feature. Never get any compliments for my looks .... well, you win some - you loose some. The EEB lets me win a few more :-))

    A really fun-instrument - highly recommended!
