  1. A Great Guitar At A Great Price

    Posted by Musicman97 on 29th Sep 2015

I didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the BobKat. I own a vintage 60's Harmony guitar, and also a Silvertone, so I knew I had to own the Airline. I have zero complaints, and yet I have just a few observations to share.

On the Bobkat the bridge is pinned, and there is no intonation adjustments. They seem to have their mills set properly, as it was completely fine. String height is easy to adjust, so that is good.

The tuners are fine. No complaints.

The headstock is a work of art. The Airline logo is so very, very cool. the headstock and the body of the guitar is finished and polished to a very fine standard for such an inexpensive guitar. Credit is due.

The hardtail is chrome. It polishes up great.

The pick guard has holes to adjust the pickup height, but it seems they were drilled after the pick guards were put into production and are offset and out-of-round. Not a big deal.

With just one pickup, I can still get good tone. -with proper effects and a decent amp this guitar should give you all that you need. The pickup output is OK, the tone on the pickup seems clear and bright, it's very pleasant unless you turn down the tone controls, where it becomes overly dark and muddy. Solution: Leave the tone up, and everything is peachy.
Really with the tone -it's exactly what you should expect at this price point, and you really can't go wrong.

The quality on the rosewood fret board and the quality of the woods that they use are just OK. They don't polish the fret boards out very well at all. This is definitely the weakest link on these guitars.

In addition- the frets are not dressed properly either. You will have to spend a little time to dress the fret ends as you can see the file marks clearly- and they will snag your fingers while you play.

I plan on polishing the fret boards, and dressing the fret wires when I have some free time. I could complain, but at the price you pay, what exactly should you expect. It's not a deal-killer.

I ordered two guitars, -this Bobkat, and also a Bighorn, and the BobKat had issues at the 12th fret with indentations on the Rosewood that were not polished out. The same problem were there on the Bighorn, on the 15th fret the Rosewood was knotty and had a fine split- to the point where it had snagged a polishing cloth, the fibers from the polishing cloth were still in the fret board wood straight from the factory when I opened the box. It was so bad I had to call customer service to exchange it for another guitar with Eastwood.

Luckily for me- Eastwood is a stand-up company. They took full ownership and sent a replacement guitar right away. I have nothing but respect for them. They offer a great (fantastic) value for a wonderful guitar that can give you many years of enjoyment.

For what you have to pay, you simply can't go wrong. You get a lot of guitar for a ridiculously low price, with a great company who I have found will go the extra mile to go out of their way to make things right.

I'll probably end up ordering the complete line of guitars from Eastwood. They are a raging bargain. You get exactly what you paid for, and then some.
