Introducing the new Airline® '59 NEWPORT. It is Eastwood's take on the rare National Newport Val-Pro 88 from the late 50′s and early 60′s. It features two NY Mini Humbuckers and a Piezo pickup in the bridge with a 5-way switch, on a lightweight tone-chambered Mahogany body. Tones of tonal variations! Available in Black or Seafoam Green. Original Newport Res-O-Glas models now sell for $4,000-$6,000.

I bought this guitar because I am old enough to remember Airline (Montgomery Ward) and Silverton (Sears) guitars. Always like the sounds of those vintage axes. I would give it 5 stars except I am not really happy with the sound of the piezo bridge pickup. Otherwise it is a great guitar.

I bought a Newport back in February and am very happy with it. I was looking for a new electric and the write up in Guitar Player is what turned me on to Eastwood. There was no dealer anywhere close to where I live in Ma. so I was flying blind here. I dealt directly with Mike Robinson. He was good. Answered all my concerns about the condition the guitar would arrive in and what we would do if that wasn't the case. So I bought it on a Sunday during a warm spell up here, Monday was a holiday and it shipped on a Tuesday and I received it at work on that Thursday.
The guitar is great. There is no sound running thru a, GK 2000 with a DIGI I can't get close to. Just the guitar plugged straight in, nothing in between is impressive. As I play mostly chords I don't mess around with a setting much once I get the sound I want. In seven months and maybe 7 string changes she has just needed 2 small tweaks on the neck. Do have to tighten down the input nut from time to time but she is still as good as the day I bought her. No intonatoin issues, stays in tune very well even with windmills.

I had wanted one of these guitars ever since seeing The Long Ryders on a beer commercial back in the early 1980s, when Sid Griffin was playing an original National model. Though I am not that impressed with the acoustic pickup's sound, everything else about this guitar is absolutely great! The tone and playability are far better than I even expected, and the customer service on this item is top-notch!
